We beat the game!
Posted: Avanne @ Thu Oct 16, 2008 2:38 pm
Two months after we downed M'uru, we have finally downed the Deciever! Of course, in typical Spike Flail fashion we waited for the last attempt of the night to bring out our A game and collect our new sexy lewtz.

Spike Flail has been raiding since heroics were hard and Currator was huge progression and following the release of 3.0, we were able to down
Kil'jaeden on our 5th attempt of the night.

KJ is an extremely intense fight, even after the nerfbat with a ton of
raid damage and great coordination required. I'd like to thank everyone
who showed up and pushed our progression for the past few weeks after
losing so many of our raiders to attrition and real life.

Last attempt of the night guys, pop it if you got it, sweep the leg, FOCUS FUCK!

M'uru
Posted: Ushas @ Fri Jul 18, 2008 5:35 pm
Following our speedy kill of the Eredar Twins, I don't think any of us realized the challenge that lay before us in the form of M'uru. Within the first few weeks of attempts, the realization of how tightly tuned the encounter was began to dawn on us. Never before had we seen an encounter where the DPS, Healing, and coordination had to be so perfect that one mistake, lag spike, or bad RNG would ruin an otherwise great attempt.

The first month of learning M'uru was tough. As we played with our DPS and healing configurations, we slowly and surely became more efficient; but despite improvements in each aspect of the fight, we still weren't making a ton of progress. Even with our best performances and strong tweaks to our setup and strategy; wasted nights due to D/Cs, random tank deaths, and silly mistakes began to wear our patience with the fight thin.

Things changed about three weeks ago. Either through sheer practice, hardened resolve, or just random dumb luck, our small mistakes (and connection problems) began to minimize. Our attempts got better, and we began consistently getting close to Phase 2. However, poor performances and focus and the nature of the fight still still were hampering our progress. Until one night last week, everything seemed to come together. For the duration of the night, our players gave it their all, and we consistently brought ourselves into Phase 2 a number of times... managing to bring Entropius to 28% on our first clean transition.

Now knowing we could make the kill, we entered into Sunwell this week with confidence. News of the M'uru nerf with the 2.4.3 patch further increased our confidence: allowing a bit more flexibility with our Phase 1 DPS would reduce the amount of time wasted due to a wipes because of one small or silly mistake. Our attempts on Wednesday night went great, with each attempt on Entropius slowly bringing him down more than the previous. As we familiarized ourselves with the mechanics of P2 and how to best maximize our healing, DPS, and communication, we got closer and closer to a kill. And then...

After 19 nights of wiping, over 500 attempts, and 40,000g from the Guild Bank in consumables/repairs, M'uru was finally dead. It wasn't a change of strategy, or a different setup, or even the HP nerf that finally allowed us to down the ethereal asshole; but one solid night of clear heads, communication, and focus. As has seemingly become common in our kills, positive attitudes and confidence dictate our strong performances, and the past two weeks where most of our progression took place proved no different.

WWS of our Badness

Great job to everyone and as always, thank you to everyone who stuck it out and showed up to every night of attempts, regardless of good or bad. A lot of guilds would grow discouraged and give up after some of the fruitless nights we had, but we persevered and pushed on, and finally made it to this point. A well-deserved kill for a great group of players, thank you all once again. Kil'jaeden awaits!

Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Fun!

Not too much to say about these gals. We were very lucky to go into the fight with the knowledge regarding the "alternative hard" strat, saving us countless nights that we could have wasted on the Alythess-first strategy. Because we were able to enter into the fight with some background information at our disposal that guilds before us didn't have the luxuryq of possessing, we didn't feel the fight was as horrible as it was hyped up to be. Our healers were top notch for 90% of the attempts we made over the week and we knew by the end of the first night that we could easily down them in proper time.

We should have had them down last Weds and been #2 kill on the server, but alas that didn't happen. Our first time that night getting Sarcolash down, we ended up hitting the Enrage due to dead DPS. The second time late that night we ended up again Enraging 1% after a near perfect execution of Phase 1, due to a bad disconnect and some BossMod confusion. It cost us our 2nd-Server position, but we came back in on Sunday and downed them within the first 30 minutes of attempts.

Great job to our healers once again pushing themselves to keep up with the immense amount of raid damage this fight offers, and hats off to our tanks who mastered the proper positioning required. I personally believe the fight is amazingly well-tuned, requiring such a precise positioning and healing distribution that any deviation will result in a wipe. It's definately one of the more enjoyable encounters in the game so far, a trend all the bosses in Sunwell have been keeping up with. Hats off to Blizzard for another well done fight, and great job everyone once again.

On to M'uru. Wink

Felmyst (AKA "The Bitch")
Posted: Ushas @ Tue Apr 29, 2008 2:21 pm
After our Brut kill two weeks ago, we had a full day to play with Felmyst, and got some good learning in on how to handle her abilities. The bitch should have died the week after, but we had a few setbacks with flaky ex-guild members as well as taking a night to finish off some Hyjal rings for a few members. Thus unfortunately we weren't able to get attempts in on Felmyst last week, and thus the delay between the Brut kill and the Felmyst one.

We came in with two full days of Progression on the bony bitch this week, and started out with some tweaks to our original strategy which we thought would have stronger long-term stability, even if it meant having to take a few hours to relearn it. Slowly but surely, each attempt grew stronger as people became more accustomed to the Encapsulates, Gas Nova Timers, Deep Breath movement, and how to kite the Demonic Vapors. By the end of Sunday night, we had gotten her down to 4%, wiping to the Enrage due to lost DPS earlier in the fight.

We knew going in Sunday we'd down her, and that's exactly what happened. Once most people got accustomed to the above-mentioned abilities, the fight really wasn't too bad at all; reaction time on the Demonic Vapors and healing through Encapsulates are really the only hard parts about the fight. While the video of our first kill might not bely it, by the time we got our kill our healers had adjusted well to the heal-through-encapsulate strategy we were using, and we were able to survive 75% of the Encapsulates without losing anyone, with no movement involved. Great work from our healers and everyone for being fast with their healthstones and Arcane Protection Potions!

Unfortunately... before we got to set up with a group shot, people decided to go exploring and pulled the Twins gauntlet! Note Qourthon trying ot bubble hearth at the first sign of danger, like a true Pally.

By the time we sorted that chaos out, Felmyst had despawned before we got a chance for our group shot! Luckily a few of our members snapped some kill photos while we were setting up.

Great job as always gang! It's a great feeling going into every attempt stronger than the previous, and you all have kept the same great attitude towards progression that's been with us since Kael. Halfway done with Sunwell, but people have labeled the Twins as the cockblock of Sunwell; let's keep our heads up, our attitude positive, and continue bringing that great atittude and motivation that has gotten us this far. But for now, lets be proud of what we've accomplished so far. Good job everyone and congrats!

Welcome to Sunwell...
Posted: Ushas @ Mon Apr 14, 2008 3:38 am
...where cool Dragons fulfill their obligatory "become corrupted so 25 people can beat me up and take my loots" experience, Pit Lords miraculously one shot an enemy who completely dominated them previously, and scantily-clad cow women fulfill the dreams of every nerd who harbors a secret hoof fetish...

With the release of 2.4, we didn't push right into Sunwell like a lot of other guilds did. We knew we were behind on gear with only 2 months of Illidan kills under our belt, and felt it was best to keep farming for those upgrades now instead of later, when Kil'jaeden was accessible. Therefore we didn't get into Sunwell until nearly a week after its release, but what an instance it turned out to be.

After an eerie recollection of the worse part of ZA during the trash, we finally found ourselves at the first boss, Kalecgos. Kalec definately has to one of my favorite fights in the game so far personally: requiring an amazing amount of raid coordination and logistical planning while remaining demanding in its gear requirements. Our first night of attempts left us feeling confident in our ability to down him, and we did just that in 3 pulls on our next night in.

Next up was the big gear check himself, Brutallus. While we always felt we had the ability to win the fight, it definately proved to be one of the most challenging encounters we've faced in a long time. The shear amount of tank damage astounded us and came close to demoralizing us after countless wipes with no relief or mercy. Brutallus broke our usual two night kill streak, but he did eventually fall on the third.

We ended our first full night of attempts at two 4% Enrages last Monday, and entered in after a fresh round of BT farming on Wednesday to take him down. Unfortunately we were forced to call the night after two harrowing 1% wipes, giving us 3 days to dwell on our mistakes and focus ourselves to pushing out that final DPS. Tonight on Sunday, he finally fell over a few seconds after his Enrage killed our tanks, barely on time...

What an amazingly tuned fight... It was intimidating entering into it with no more then 10 Illidan kills and no Warglaives, compared to the guilds who've been farming Illidan since last year barely making Enrages too. As they have done since SSC though, our DPS never failed to amaze us as we squeezed out every point of DPS we could through consumables, raid synergy, and perfect rotations. Big props to our amazing healing crew as well, who works so well together at overcoming any obstable, and stayed positive even after losing our tanks countless times in less then a second, despite max rank healing spam.

Our WWS of the Brut Kill, for anyone interested.

Great job to everyone, the fun has only just begun!
